In the present context, Association of Family Forest Owner’s, Nepal (AFFON) has propelled on the access, right to freely utilize family forests, and professional exercise of consumption and promotion of Family forests.
AFFON has been continuously focusing on preservation of forests use for livelihood promotion, and campaigning for family forest farmers’ development, enrichment, amplification and conservation of forest. In this context the association has taken the initiative to lobby for improving laws and different policies and regulations through continuous advocacy.
The Advocacy workshop stressed on preparing AFFON’s Immediate , Short-term and Long-term goals for next 10 years and holistic development of the organization by introducing Family Forest Farmers Friendly laws and policies in the Federal system.
Chairperson, AFFON Mr. Jog Raj Giri chaired the workshop and presented his clear view, “For the insurance of family forest farmer’s rights, there is a dire need of developing legal and advocacy strategies, their importance and methods.”
Forestry and Environmental Action’s (fea) representative Mrs. Ajla Dorfer and Nina Klirc presented the draft Advocacy Plan in the workshop. During the same workshop, both partner organizations had issue based discussion on various topics.
Moreover, for the organizational development of both partner organizations, a format was developed for the Organizational Capacity Building. Meanwhile, Flemming Sheshted , representative of Danish Forestry Extension (DFE) presented on the importance of appropriate Board of Directors for the organizational development. “After the Central level advocacy plan is prepared, similar plan will be prepared for all 45 districts of AFFON , said participant Mr. Bijaya Raj Paudyal .
Likewise, the partner representatives were taken to an educational tour to a family forest of Bhairab K.C from Dhulikhel. Also a meeting was held with the AFFON, Kavre District Chapter with the executive committee and the experience sharing and learning was done. AFFON along with Forestry and Environmental Action and Danish Forestry Extension had conducted the 4 days long Advocacy Workshop.
