Parliamentarians’ commitment not to seize locals’ forest rights (27th December, 2018)

Member of Parliament have committed not to seize the forest rights of the locals. Association of Family Forest Owner’s Nepal (AFFON) has conducted a National Policy Dialogue on Federalism, Forest Management and Policy Issues of Family Forestry for lobbying for the rights of local people in the Forest Policy 2075. 22 Members of Parliament participated in the National Policy Dialogue on Federalism, Forest Management and Policy Issues of Family Forestry.

The parliamentarians committed to pass the Draft Forest Bill 2075 after an indepth study ; preparing the law and  prioritizing on the peoples’ welfare. They presented their views on the Draft Forest Bill 2075 that has suppressed and seized the rights of both Community Forest users and Family Forest Users.

Honorable Parliamentarian, Mr. Paarbat Gurung assured that the Forest rights in local level won’t be cut off. He also added that the Draft Forest Bill 2075will surely be based on the community and ensure the rights of locals. The parliamentarians claimed that they will soon discuss about the Draft Forest Bill 2075 with the Prime Minister.

In the participation of members of FECOFUN, AFFON, Municipal Association, National Consumer’s Right Conservation Forum, Forest Experts the Policy Dialogue had almost 60 participants.
