Strengthening Family Forest : Highlights from AFFON’s PPMU Interaction Meetings

AFFON successfully conducted three Interaction Meetings (01/7/2025 – 7/12/2025) with the Provincial Project Management Units (PPMUs) in the BRCRN project areas of Madhesh (Bardibas), Koshi (Itahari), and Bagmati (Sindhuli) provinces. These meetings were organized in close coordination with AFFON’s district chapters and central office, river basin committees, and support of local facilitators with the active and meaningful participation from representatives of river system–level networks, the AFFON team, and PPMU officials. Discussions focused on the core objectives of the assignment and explored opportunities for continued collaboration to promote private forestry initiatives.

A key emphasis was placed on strengthening local groups and encouraging the establishment of woodlots on privately owned land. Participants highlighted the long-term benefits of private forestry, particularly its role in climate change mitigation and in meeting local demands for forest products. These meetings made a common understanding to work at cluster and network level and to incorporate them into policy making. PPMUs realized the need to mobilize wider stakeholders including AFFON on delivery of the CERP activities primarily in woodlots establishment. In Overall, the interaction meetings helped build shared understanding, foster partnerships, and set the foundation for sustained efforts toward resilient and climate-friendly land management practices.
