Strengthening Family Forest through Cluster-Level Engagement in Churia Region of Nepal

As part of the Building a Resilient Churia Region in Nepal (BRCRN) project, Association of Family Forest Owners, Nepal (AFFON) successfully organized and facilitated 135 cluster-level meetings (8/8/2025 – 18/8/2025) for PF groups across 21 river systems to promote and expand private forestry initiatives in the project area. These meetings brought together 63 Private Forest (PF) groups in Koshi Province, 65 PF groups in Madhesh Province, and 7 PF groups in Bagmati Province, creating a strong platform for capacity enhancement, collaboration, and collective action among family forest owners. A total of 851.39 hectares of land has been identified for planting timber trees, fruit trees, and fodder, requiring 312,282 seedlings in total.

The cluster-level meetings were designed to support BRCRN’s broader goal of promoting forest woodlots on family-owned land while strengthening the capacity of private forest owners as organized groups. By empowering these groups, the project aims to foster an enabling policy and institutional environment that supports sustainable private forestry development. The meetings were conducted through close coordination among AFFON district chapters, river basin committees and locally mobilized facilitators. This collaborative approach ensured smooth facilitation and meaningful engagement at the grassroots level.
