Growing Green Communities: AFFON’s Agroforestry and Plantation Initiative Under the DGM Project

DGM Nepal is strengthening its engagement with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in Forests for Prosperity (FFP), REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation), etc. Climate change oriented programs as well as livelihoods, land use improvement; forestry promotes comprehensive and effective sustainable forest management in their areas by securing the right to customary practices in management and increasing the income of forest-dependent communities in Madhesh and Lumbini provinces.
Through the Dedicated Grant Mechanism (DGM) Project, AFFON Nawalparasi and Dhanusha received grant funding to implement community-led agroforestry, tree plantation, and livelihood improvement activities. Under the Dedicated Grant Mechanism (DGM) Project for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, a fruit and forest-based nursery has been established in Ward No. 7 of Laxminiya Rural Municipality, Dhanusha District to produce quality seedlings for tree plantation and agroforestry. Likewise, a tree plantation program has been carried out in Sarawal Rural Municipality, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), to promote sustainable land use, environmental conservation, and improved livelihoods for local communities.
