Association of Family Forest Owners Nepal (AFFON) was established on March 8, 2015, to
secure the rights of family forest farmers and promote sustainable management of family forests
across Nepal. On the occasion of AFFON Day, we recognize the valuable contribution of family
forest owners in conserving forests and promoting sustainable livelihoods. AFFON continues to
advocate for farmer-friendly forest policies, strengthen networks of family forest owners, and
promote climate-resilient forest management. On this day, let us appreciate the role of family
forest owners in protecting biodiversity, supporting rural economies, and ensuring a greener
future.
This day recognizes the efforts of family forest farmers who care for forests that support
biodiversity, provide livelihoods, and protect the environment. Family forest farmers often
manage their land responsibly by planting trees, conserving wildlife habitats, and using forest
resources sustainably. Through organizations like AFFON, these owners can share knowledge,
promote sustainable forest practices, and work together.
Celebrating AFFON Day also helps raise awareness about the value of community involvement
in forest conservation. By supporting family forest farmers, societies can ensure healthier forests,
stronger rural economies, and a better environment for everyone. AFFON Day serves as a
reminder for governments to develop inclusive forest policies that empower family forest
farmers, protect biodiversity, and support rural livelihoods while ensuring long-term forest
sustainability.
