Strengthening Family Forest Promotion through Municipal-level Interaction Meetings in the BRCRN Project Area

Association of Family Forest Owners, Nepal (AFFON) organized 21 municipal-level meetings (01/7/2025 – 7/12/2025) and interaction programs across the BRCRN project areas in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces to further promote private forestry through organized groups and networks.

These meetings were conducted in close coordination with AFFON district chapters and river basin committees, ensuring strong local ownership and effective facilitation. The programs brought together river system-level committee members, local elected representatives, municipal staff, and other relevant stakeholders, fostering constructive dialogue and collaboration.Active participation from local governments and stakeholders highlighted the growing recognition of private forestry as an important tool for sustainable land management and livelihood improvement. The interactions provided a platform to discuss roles, responsibilities, and opportunities for municipalities to support private forestry initiatives through policy alignment, technical assistance, and local planning processes. These meetings briefly sensitized local government on green jobs, green economy, PF registration, climate resilience and formulation of forest act and regulation at local level to promote private forestry. The executive members and representatives from the local government structures were strengthened on the pathways for PF promotion, monitoring and evaluation.

Overall, the municipal-level meetings strengthened coordination between PF groups, networks, and local governments, helping to create a more supportive environment for the promotion and expansion of private forestry under the BRCRN project.
