Planting for the Future: Boosting Livelihoods of Family Forest Farmers of Urlabari Through Fruit Seedling Distribution and Plantation in Private land

Green changes are coming to Urlabari Municipality of Morang district in Koshi Province. On July 6, 2026, Uralabari municipality ward office of ward number 6 distributed 1,000 seedlings of Mango and Litchi for free to the family forest farmers group of ward number 6 of Urlabari municipality. This initiative aims to kick-start commercial fruit cultivation and improve community livelihoods.

With demand running high and a limited supply available, the saplings were handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. The initiative drew an enthusiastic crowd of local growers eager to diversify their farms.

Ward Chairperson Chintamani Paudel shared that this program is a direct effort to expand fruit farming in the area, offering a practical way for farmers to boost their long-term income and transition toward commercial agriculture.

This green initiative was made possible through a collaboration between the family forest farmers, family forest farmers group at ward level of Urlabari municipality, the AFFON Morang District Committee, Ward Office, and Building Resilience Chure Region in Nepal (BRCRN) project based in Itahari. AFFON Morang District Chairperson Indra Dhakal highlighted the double benefit of the program, noting that planting these fruit trees serves as a win-win for both financial growth and environmental conservation.

Small landholder family forest farmers expressed their deep gratitude to Ward Chairperson Paudel, AFFON Morang, and all the supporting organizations for putting together a highly successful event that planted the seeds for a more sustainable future.
